The love of God takes many forms in the scripture. Parts of the bible even refer to God as love itself. Love could be explained as wanting the best for someone , and that is exactly what God intends for us.
1 John 4:7
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. There are four unique forms of love are found in the bible. They are communicated through four Greek words: Eros, Storge, Philia and Agape. We will all explore these different types of love characterized by romantic love, family love, brotherly love and the divine love of God. Love is the best feeling in the world and it does not need to be only a command. It needs to be a way of living.
Every love story has a beginning. Mine started at a bench in secondary school. I was 17 years old when I felt in love with Jesus Christ and decided to be his. There I was , a teenager girl, listening to the preaching of my colleague on a Sunday morning. I listened carefully, but this time it was different. I felt the urge need to change and truly embrace the love of Jesus Christ in my life. Jesus Christ is the ultimate authentic example of true love. He left his divinity and throne ,became human and came on earth for our salvation.
True love means that there are no expectations or limitations set. To love unconditionally is a difficult thing, and most of us are not good at that. True love really love without trying to change the other person. Do you know why it is difficult for most of us to love truly and authentically? It because we are selfish and we want things to be done our way. We do not see the need to seek understanding and comprehension.
Our very own existence turns around love. We could not have existed in the first place if it was not for love. When we wake in the morning and go to sleep at night, it is because we care about our health and love ourselves. Looking deep in our thoughts , we can be surprised by the reality. Whatever we do is out of love. Love for our family, our friends, ourselves, our country and mostly God. The question we should now start asking ourselves is : Is our love true love or fake love? authentic love or illusional love? self-centered or selfless love?
1 John 4:19
19 We love because he first loved us. Nowadays, love is calculated and manipulative. Most of us do not know how to love properly. How do you explain the fact that some of us tells someone they love them and the next morning we wake up saying " I no longer love you, my feelings for you suddenly changed". True love does not change or have blossoming and decaying seasons. True love understands, never change and waits. The problem with us is that we seek to be loved, rather than first loving. That is not the kind of life that Jesus Christ intends us to live. The moment we start embracing our differences and respecting each other , that is when we will be truly loving one another. Jesus Christ is invited each and everyone of us to truly and authentically love one another.
Do you love truly and authentically? Do you live for yourself or for the Lord? Have you ever encountered true love? These questions are for me and you. Let us find an answer and start living a life that God intends us to live.
Prayer starter: Dear Heavenly Father, teach me to love truly and authentically. I seek you with a hungry heart, come into my heart and feed me. Teach us to truly understand the gospel message on how incredibly lovable you are. You alone are our rock, our salvation and our fortress. we shall never be shaken. Teach us your ways, as your way is the true way. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
